Student Stormwater Project Earns Partnership Award

This week, Clean Water Services (CWS) was recognized at the Beaverton School District's Community Partnerships Awards Ceremony for STEAM work with Highland Park Middle School. Last school year, CWS worked with 300 biology students at Highland Park to design a swale that slows down and filters stormwater from 8,600 square feet of the school's parking lot. Students participated in background lessons, design workshops and planted 1,600 native plants in the swale. This year students removed weeds and added 300 native plants to the swale. CWS staff have also participated in career and science fair presentations at Highland Park. The ongoing partnership will explore additional ways to incorporate the swale into the school's STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art and Math) curriculum.
