Representatives from Clean Water Services (CWS) joined Janet Gillaspie, Executive Director of the Oregon Association of Clean Water Agencies (ACWA), in presenting a Special Recognition Award at PCC Rock Creek recently. The award was presented to Dr. Sandra Fowler-Hill, PCC Rock Creek President, to honor a partnership program between CWS and the Landscape Management Technology program at PCC Rock Creek.
CWS built the partnership with PCC to reach and educate contractors who maintain privately-owned water quality facilities such as swales and rain gardens. Through this partnership, contractors benefit from a broader skill set and greater efficiency, PCC students gain exposure to career pathways and water quality facilities are maintained to protect water resources.
In her remarks at the awards ceremony, Janet Gillaspie said, "It is leadership like PCC's and its community-based solutions which allowed this innovative program to provide important student training, and opportunities for local businesses to tackle a water quality problem." CWS' General Manager Bill Gaffi added that this unique project is now a partnership model for other academic institutions and local jurisdictions.
ACWA presents awards to outstanding members and individuals, as well as special community partners on a yearly basis. During the ACWA conference this last July, Clean Water Services’ Development Services Supervisor Tony Gilbertson was presented with an Outstanding Member Award as for his part in this partnership.
