The Tanasbrook Lakes/Bronson Creek Stream Enhancement project is located at NW 185th and Cornell at the site of three large residential complexes - Tanasbrook Condominiums, The Lakes Apartments, and Birch Pointe Apartments. Three large lakes were established at this site about 40 years ago by damming Bronson Creek. This project is a high priority of the District because of the documented water quality impacts from the lakes and the benefits of enhancing the site.
The District will restore a free flowing stream channel for Bronson Creek while also preserving the lakes as requested by property owners. The natural meandering stream will be restored by removing the dam at the lower end of the lakes near 185th Avenue. A berm will be built along the edge of the lakes to establish a stream channel. The District will enhance the perimeter of the lakes and stream with native vegetation to prevent erosion and provide shade.
Schedule and budget
Clean Water Services began construction in July 2005 by dewatering the lakes. The construction of a new stream channel and lakes started in September 2006. The lower lake is being constructed first. The middle and upper lakes will be done in 2007. The District has budgeted $840,000 to enhance the ponds and create the stream channel. The District will maintain the stream corridor while long-term maintenance of the lakes will be the responsibility of the property owners.
