The Bronson Creek Enhancement project starts near the intersection of NW West Union and NW Bethany Blvd. and continues upstream to NW Saltzman Rd. The project is roughly two miles long and 100ft wide.
Bronson Creek is an urban drainage with its headwaters located on the westerly slope of the west hills of Portland. The project site is relatively flat lowland located within the Bronson Creek floodplain. The watershed has been transformed from a typical condition of forested uplands with wetland complexes on the valley floor to urban residential development.
The Bronson Creek enhancement project is designed to improve water quality and quantity management, prevent further incision of the stream channel, and improve habitat diversity of the floodplain with the following activities: addition of large woody debris, protection of an exposed sewer pipe, removal of non-native invasive plant species and re-vegetation with native plants.
Schedule and budget
Clean Water Services began the project design and planning stage in February of 2004. Non-native invasive plant removal began in late 2004 and will continue through the growing season of 2006. The woody debris placement took place in September 2004 in addition to the beginning of the revegetation process. Planting of the area will continue for two seasons through 2005. Clean Water Services will continue to monitor and maintain the site for five years.
