Tour Clean Water Services’ Rock Creek Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility on Wednesday, July 18
Hillsboro, OR — July 10, 2007 —
The public is invited to tour Clean Water Services’ Rock Creek Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility on Wednesday, July 18 at 10 a.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. This is a rare opportunity to visit the inner workings of a state-of-the-art, award-winning facility that cleans wastewater to nearly drinking water standards. The free one-hour tours will include a showing of Clean Water Services' award-winning video, Oregon's Tualatin River: A Watershed Restored, and light refreshments. Children over the age of eight years old are welcome if accompanied by an adult. Space is limited so reservations should be made in advance by calling (503) 547-8000. The tours begin in the Administration Building of the Rock Creek Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility at 3235 SW River Road near Hillsboro High School.
Every day the Facility cleans 39 million gallons of wastewater from homes and businesses in the City of Hillsboro, portions of the City of Beaverton, Aloha, and unincorporated Washington County. Through innovative advanced technology and processes, wastewater from homes and businesses is cleaned and returned to the Tualatin River, providing vital clean water that improves river flow, habitat and water quality. The Facility has earned top national honors including the Environmental Protection Agency’s 2006 National Clean Water Act Recognition Award.
Clean Water Services is the sanitary sewer and surface water management utility for more than 500,000 people in urban Washington County and small portions of Multnomah County, Clackamas County, Lake Oswego, and Portland. Clean Water Services operates four wastewater treatment plants, constructs and maintains flood management and water quality projects and manages flow in the Tualatin River to improve water quality and protect fish habitat. Although Clean Water Services maintains a close working relationship with Washington County government, it is a separately managed and financed public utility.
